Benbecula Beanie- This hat gets its name from the Isle of Benbecula in Scotland. Benbecula is one of a group of islands known as the Outer Hebrides. It lies between the islands of North and South Uist, off the west coast of Scotland, and is connected to both via road causeways. Benbecula also has an airport which operates daily flights to Glasgow, Stornoway and Barra. There is no direct ferry services from Benbecula to the mainland. Therefore, travel by ferry is via North and South Uist. Benbecula has a residential population of around 1300. Benbecula is 31.7 square miles and is covered by a dense cluster of lochs across almost the entire island. Benbecula has a long military history. An army base was established here in 1958 and is one of the main employers on the island as it is the headquarters for those who service the South Uist missile testing range.
